In 2009, Mother Nature played right into the hands of modern Burgundy winemakers. The ripe, fully mature grapes were textbook perfect for making wine at a level they had only dreamed of. And they did. In fact, the grapes were so ripe and healthy, just about everybody made great reds in 2009. From the obscure lieu-dits to the famous Grand Crus, success was widespread for 2009 red Burgundies. In fact, EWS will devote three tastings to encompass the major wines.

For Part I, we’re concentrating on the spectacular 2009 reds that were made in the Côte de Beaune. These wines are not only of the highest quality, they are drinking quite seductively right now. The tasting is filled entirely with affordable wines (below $100) that have big scores and/or are EWS favorites.
