Conterno, A.
Sort By:
Son of Giacomo Conterno, perhaps one of the greatest winemakers in the history of the Langhe, Aldo split from the family's estate in 1961 setting out to produce his own singular style of Barolo. While his brother Giovanni continues on their father's legacy of staunchly traditional Barolo, Aldo began to implement modern winemaking technology such as stainless steal fermentation vats. The 25 hectare estate sits in Bussia in the village Monforte d’Alba, surrounded primarily between his three Nebbiolo vineyards Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello. His top Barolo, Granbussia, is a cuvée of the best grapes from these three cru, which will then be held back in the cellar for six years before release. Aldo also produces benchmark Barbera, a young vines cuvée of Nebbiolo called Il Favot, and a Nebbiolo dominated blend Quartetto, the balance being Barbera, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
