San Guido
Mario Incisa della Rochetta planted his first Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Bolgheri in 1944. Believing that the soil composition was similar to the Graves region in Bordeaux, Rochetta named his first wine 'Sassicaia,' or stony ground. In 1965, he planted two more vineyards comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc; the new “Sassicaia” vineyard was situated approximately 800 feet lower than the original Cabernet vineyard. 1968 was the first vintage to be bottled and marketed.
