Grasso, S.
The  Grasso family has been producing wine since 1927, but Federico Grasso only started bottling their own in the 1980.  His sophisticated, modern Barolos are particularly notable for avoiding excessive wood aromas; to this end, Grasso prefers to use large barrels rather than barriques for maturation, and uses less than 30% new wood even on his single-vineyard bottlings.  Maceration takes plance on the skins for 6-7 days in steel vats, then ageing in French oak barriques for 27 months, and finally, fining in the bottle for 6 months.
Item RD495
Nebbiolo: very modern on the nose with suggestions of toasted oak, vanilla and underbrush, followed by layers of dark red fruit, licorice and tar. It offers more structure with broader, longer tannins and notable length.
