Brad Richards + NYV + Vietti = One-Nine Barbera

Brad Richards + NYV + Vietti = One-Nine BarberaNew York Vintners is ecstatic to announce a very special project between star NY Ranger center Brad Richards and Vietti winery owner and winemaker Luca Currado. Brad, Luca, and New York Vintners have combined their world class talents to make One-Nine, a truly remarkable, hand-crafted barrel select Barbera. Continuing Vietti's artist label tradition, Brad and New York Vintners commissioned New York City artist Jason Oliva to draw the label that adorns each bottle. One-Nine is another offering in a long line of the most sought-after, collectible, and well-regarded wines in the world from Vietti.

Each case purchased will include a bottle personally signed by Brad.

The history of the Vietti winery traces its roots back to the 19th Century. In 1919, Mario Vietti transformed the family's farm into a grape-growing and wine-producing business, creating the first Vietti labeled wines. Alfredo Currado married Mario's daughter Luciana and made a name for Vietti's single-vineyard Barolo and Barbera. He also put the native Piedmont varietal Arneis on the wine map. In 1990 Alfredo and Luciana's son Luca joined the family business as winemaker after working at California's Simi Winery, Opus One, Long Vineyards and Bordeaux's Mouton-Rothschild. His innovative winemaking utilizes a unique combination of modern and traditional practices. Vietti organically farms more than 25 single vineyards with vines up to 90 years of age.

Since 1974, certain Vietti wines have been dressed with specially-designed original works inspired by the wine of that particular vintage.  Alfredo Currado tells the story:  "The idea was conceived in the company of a group of friends one winter’s evening around a bottle of Barolo Rocche. Some of them were artists, and while we were tasting a few bottles they were fired with enthusiasm just on seeing the colour of the wine in the glass. They said wines like these deserved to be graced with labels unlike any other: labels designed by Artists. In the excitement of the moment we drew up a list of Artists, and the following day what had seemed to be a fanciful idea began to take shape."
