Western Australia

Australia's biggest state, Western Australia, has the country's most isolated wine regions in its southwest corner.  Starting in the 1970s, this region has gone through quite a period of evolution with the Margaret River area taking over most of the wine production within Western Australia.  Here, Cabernet Sauvignon produces a wine which consistently combines elegance with strength.  Chardonnay, Semillon, and Sauvignon Blanc are white grapes of importance here thriving in the Margaret Rivers cooler vineyards. complex and often long lived.
