Oregon has gained a reputation for producing the most Burgundian styled Pinot Noir in the Pacific Northwest. Fully-ripened grapes are by no means guaranteed in Oregon where vines are directly exposed to the marine airflow of the Pacific ocean, giving milder winters but cooler, wetter summers than neighboring states. Oregon's best known AVA is the Willamette Valley followed by Yamhill-Carlton and the Dundee Hills. Outside of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris has been planted with increasing success.
